EcoSmart is an innovative approach to real estate development which combines advanced technologies, partners, products and construction methods to deliver zero-energy-capable homes at an affordable price. It’s a comprehensive solution made up of several components designed to save natural resources and dramatically reduce homeowners’ energy costs.
The heart of the EcoSmart program is the a geothermal district system that uses the earth below our feet to heat and cool the home reducing energy consumption for space conditioning by up to 65%. Installed during the early phases of the development the TESS becomes part of the infrastructure like water, sewer, and electric utility lines. For the underground geothermal piping, EcoSmart is using a PEX-A piping product, a premium product of our partner REHAU.
A Bosch geothermal heat pump (or comparable product of other manufacturer) uses geothermal energy stored in the Thermal Energy Supply System to heat and cool the house – all without noisy HVAC units outside. And we’ve taken the technology one step further by using it to provide domestic hot water, further reducing energy consumption.
Electricity generated by solar PV panels on individual homes or in community solar fields on your development helps make EcoSmart homes zero-energy-capable. The installation is easy and can be integrated into any standard roof construction.
Using smart home technology, the Nest family of products is designed to optimize energy use according to each homeowner’s schedule while safeguarding their home itself. The ‘Works with Nest’ program serves as the portal to smart homes, integrating more than 10,000 products. The EcoSmart solution includes the Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Protect smoke alarm and Nest Cam security camera.
Bosch high-efficiency refrigerators and dishwashers are German-engineered for unsurpassed performance and ENERGY STAR compliance. Forged in cutting-edge stainless steel, these outstanding appliances consistently earn top rankings for quiet operation and resourcefulness, making it a pleasure to cook at home.
Whisper Valley homeowners are eligible for tax incentives now available for both solar and geothermal systems. Homeowners can receive a tax credit for their home’s solar photovoltaic (PV system), as well as a tax credit on the geothermal equipment that is on the lot and in the home. This includes the ground-source heat pump (including installation) that drives the geothermal heating and cooling system in each home. The current law allows homeowners to write off 30% of the value of both systems, which could total between $7,000-$10,000* depending on the size of the home. If the credit ismore than the homeowner owes in taxes in the first year, the remaining tax credit can be sued to reduce taxes for the following year. Each homeowner is encouraged to consult their tax preparer to ensure accuracy when filing their tax return.
A certified and independent Home Energy Rater assesses the energy efficiency of every home, assigning it a relative performance score. The lower the number, the more energy efficient the home. The U.S. Department of Energy has determined that a standard new code-built home is awarded a rating of 100. For example a home with a HERS Score of 70 is 30% more energy efficient, and a home with a HERS rating of 50 is 50% more efficient.
